Service Engineer – Early Engagement
Location and working pattern
• Based full time on site in Braine l’Alleud, Belgium
• Normal office environment, some travel within Belgium (about 1–2 trips per month)
• Contract from 3 August 2026 to 31 December 2026
Security and level
• NATO Secret clearance required
• Senior professional level (equivalent to NATO grade G15)
Main purpose of the job
• Lead early technical work on large ICT / C4ISR projects
• Shape and manage requirements, solution approach and integration plans
• Act as a bridge between business/users, architects, and technical delivery teams
Key responsibilities
• Run and manage requirements work (scope, requirements, priorities) for medium size/complex projects
• Get input from stakeholders, challenge and refine their needs, and agree priorities
• Create and maintain agreed, signed off requirements with traceability
• Plan and drive systems development activities so they meet business goals
• Choose and adapt suitable development methods, tools and techniques
• Monitor progress, resources and risks, and report status to stakeholders
• Ensure work follows agreed architectures, standards, security and privacy rules
• Create and maintain technology and development roadmaps
Systems integration and testing
• Give technical input for configuring systems and components for testing
• Help define system integration plans and new/complex integration builds
• Make sure integration environments are correctly set up
• Design, run and report on integration tests
• Document integration components in the configuration management system
• Suggest and implement improvements to processes and tools
Business and stakeholder work
• Work with internal and external stakeholders to understand and document business needs
• Help create requirements that support the organisation’s strategy
• Collect data, support analysis and help resolve problems
• Support standardisation and quality across systems to speed delivery and reduce maintenance costs
• Support early solution architecture activities for new or upcoming customer requirements
• Act as the interface to the CTO Early Engagement team and hand requirements over to NIMSC project teams
• Maintain strong relationships with NIMSC customers
• Promote outsourcing of commodity services and moving from owned assets to service models
• Deputise for senior staff when needed and take on other related duties
Essential education and experience
• Either:
o Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field plus at least 2 years’ related experience
o Or: at least 6 years of strong, progressive experience in similar roles (if no degree)
• Experience in:
o ICT design and/or software development and planning delivery of large C4ISR systems
o Identifying and assessing new and emerging technologies and fitting them into bigger systems
o Creating technology roadmaps that incorporate new technology solutions
o Managing relationships with internal and external technical stakeholders
o Applying analytical and systems thinking to complex problems
o Leading or moderating technical design discussions with multi disciplinary teams
o Presenting complex technical topics clearly to technical and non technical audiences
Desirable skills and knowledge
• Process analysis and design: needs assessment, specification development, planning and gap analysis
• Knowledge of one or more of: TOGAF, ArchiMate, ITIL, COBIT, CISSP or similar frameworks
• Knowledge and experience of military C4ISR systems requirements, analysis and specifications
