Role summary
The System Engineer will support the development of domain architectures, requirements engineering, traceability, and change management across complex technical projects. This role sits in a NATO environment and requires a strong technical background, structured thinking, and the ability to work across architecture, integration, and stakeholder coordination activities.
Key responsibilities
• Contribute to the development of domain architectures in business, infrastructure, and functional areas.
• Support the specification of cloud-based and on-premises components, tiers, and interfaces.
• Prepare technical plans and support the application of design principles.
• Ensure solutions align with enterprise and solution architecture standards, including security.
• Assist with scoping, requirements definition, and prioritisation for small and larger change initiatives.
• Elicit, document, review, and validate detailed requirements.
• Review requirements for errors, omissions, and inconsistencies.
• Prioritise requirements and maintain traceability to source.
• Support the requirements baseline and manage authorised changes in line with change control policy.
• Ensure stakeholders are aware of required resources and support resource availability and utilisation.
• Monitor and report on development project progress.
Essential requirements
• Active NATO SECRET security clearance.
• Bachelor’s degree in a technical subject with substantial IT content and 3 years’ post-related experience, or equivalent extensive experience.
• Strong system engineering capability.
• Experience with requirements engineering and traceability.
• Familiarity with structured requirements tools such as DOORS or equivalent.
• Understanding of technical baseline and interface management.
• Experience supporting integration planning and verification strategy development.
• Ability to understand system-of-systems engineering and lifecycle management.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work in a complex, international, multidisciplinary environment.
Desirable experience
• Previous experience in an international environment with military and civilian stakeholders.
• Knowledge of NATO structures and processes.
• Operational domain knowledge, especially in AirC2, federated mission operations, or NATO operational constructs.
• Experience with human factors, usability analysis, or user journey assessment.
