Role summary
The Senior System Engineer will lead and support systems engineering activities across complex technical projects within a NATO environment. The role focuses on domain architecture, requirements engineering, change control, integration planning, and delivery oversight, ensuring systems are aligned with agreed standards, security requirements, and operational needs.
Key responsibilities
• Contribute to the development of domain architectures across business, infrastructure, and functional areas.
• Produce specifications for cloud-based and on-premises components, tiers, and interfaces.
• Support technical planning and apply design principles to development projects.
• Ensure solutions align with enterprise and solution architecture standards, including security and privacy.
• Define and manage scoping, requirements definition, and prioritisation for small-scale and more complex changes.
• Elicit, document, review, and validate detailed requirements.
• Review requirements for errors, omissions, and inconsistencies.
• Prioritise requirements and maintain traceability to source.
• Support the requirements baseline and manage authorised changes in line with change policy.
• Plan and drive systems development projects aligned to organisational objectives.
• Select and adapt appropriate systems development methods, tools, and techniques.
• Ensure stakeholders understand resource needs and support resource availability and utilisation.
• Monitor and report on development project progress.
• Develop roadmaps to communicate future development activity.
Essential requirements
• Active NATO SECRET security clearance.
• Bachelor’s degree in a technical subject with substantial IT content and 3 years’ post-related experience, or equivalent extensive experience.
• Strong system engineering capability.
• Experience with requirements engineering and traceability.
• Familiarity with structured requirements tools such as DOORS or equivalent.
• Experience with technical baseline and interface management.
• Experience supporting integration planning and verification strategy development.
• Ability to work across system-of-systems and lifecycle management environments.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work in complex, international, multidisciplinary settings.
Desirable experience
• Prior experience in an international environment with military and civilian stakeholders.
• Knowledge of NATO structures and internal relationships.
• Operational domain knowledge, especially in AirC2, federated mission operations, or NATO operational constructs.
• Experience with human factors, usability analysis, or user journey assessment.

• Comfortable managing requirements, change, and technical documentation.
• Confident working with senior stakeholders and technical teams.
